Everytown Support Fund launched Moments That Survive in 2018 to share the voices and stories of those who have been impacted by gun violence. Moments That Survive offers survivors, those who have experienced gun violence, a platform to share their story in their own words. Whether you have personally experienced gun violence or not, you can show support for other survivors by reading and elevating the stories on Moments That Survive.

Gun violence takes many forms, including gun homicides, gun suicides, domestic violence involving a gun, and unintentional shootings. Survivors who have chosen to share on the site have each been impacted by gun violence in different ways, such as having someone they know and care for wounded or killed, being a witness to gun violence, or being threatened or wounded by a gun.

Every survivor has a unique experience, and Moments That Survive is a space for them to share their lived experiences and for Americans to recognize their stories. Sharing a story on Moments That Survive helps to demonstrate the human toll of gun violence. For some survivors, this can be a meaningful and empowering process to honor their experiences and recognize the lives of their loved ones who have been taken or wounded by gun violence.

The Moments That Survive website is a centerpiece of National Gun Violence Survivors Week, which occurs annually in February. With a gun death rate 13 times greater than other high-income nations, by early February, more people are killed with guns in the United States than are killed in our peer countries in an entire year. The stories shared on this website, and the events throughout National Gun Violence Survivors Week, help recognize the lasting impact gun violence has on individuals and communities.
